I was a terrible writer and a terrible student throughout elementary school, middle school, high school, and the short college years before dropping out. It wasn’t for me. I was partly embarrassed to write about stuff because I always felt I wasn’t expressing myself clearly. It's time to change that and step into the uncomfortable.

Open-source my knowledge and mistakes

Over the years, I have had my fair share of wins and failures in business. Those events come with a level of experience, mistakes, and maturity. I always come out with a new outlook or a new way to solve a similar situation or issue in the future.

Any past experiences are tools we can use in the future to help us. I want to share knowledge with anyone that I possibly can, whether it’s an up-and-coming entrepreneur, another business owner, and anyone who is curious and wants to step into the world of entrepreneurship simply due to curiosity. The vast majority of people are scared to bet on themselves and challenge themselves. Through my writing, I hope to be able to help one person make that leap into the business world, or at the very least provide a new or unique perspective.

Connecting with like-minded creators

The online community for entrepreneurs, creators, and anyone building anything online is absolutely massive and overwhelming. As I continue on this journey of writing about my experiences around business and life topics that I am interested in, I am excited to cross paths with other creators. I am always curious about what others are doing, what kind of side hustles and businesses they run, how they got to where they are, and the next steps. Having the ability to open up new conversations, share experiences, and help each other navigate this journey.

It’s a form of self-therapy

As I have been writing consistently, it's starting to give me the ability to express myself more clearly. I started a personal (digital) journal. It’s a very raw brain dump, and 90% of it doesn’t even make sense, but these are my thoughts, ideas, and feelings at that given time. It helps push that out of my brain and onto a document. Some of it makes it to my therapy sessions, some of it never sees the light of day, but it’s not stuck in my brain; that’s important.

Use writing as a gateway to becoming consistent in other parts of my life

During this Ship30for30 cohort, my number one goal is to keep my writing consistent and improve it. Even after these first ten days, the writing habit is starting to develop, it feels satisfying, and it’s much-needed for my brain. I want to take what I learn from this and reapply it to other parts of my life where I need to be more consistent.

“You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.”
