Unfortunately, instant gratification prevents people from consistently writing for a long time; a few weeks in, they give up

The world’s most valuable skill is writing.

Unfortunately, instant gratification prevents people from consistently writing for a long time; a few weeks in, they give up. Instant gratification is a priority for most people who write online — but nothing happens overnight. You must learn to stand out and make a lot of noise (consistently).

I know because I have been on Twitter for over 10 years, and only about 1 year ago, I learned to use it effectively.

Here are 5 writing frameworks that will save you dozens of painful hours:

#1 Consistency

When I started writing every day, the primary goal was to build consistency and translate that into other parts of my life.

Here is what I did:

  • I joined Ship30 and committed to writing every day for 30 days.
  • On day 30, I set a mental calendar for myself to do another 30 days.
  • Then I started a newsletter to keep writing and hold myself accountable to my subscribers.

Build a habit of blocking time to write every day.

#2 Content Consumption

Block time to consume the right content regularly.

  • Set a goal to read a few books every few months.
  • Subscribe to newsletters related to your interests and what you are writing about.
  • Listen to various podcasts.
  • Keep an open mind and dial in on things that interest you.

When you realize the different types of content and topics out there, you start to build confidence to do the same.

#3 Overcome Imposter Syndrome

This is one of the biggest reasons people don't publish their work online.

  • Be ok with being imperfect.
  • Join a writing cohort and work in groups.
  • Find an accountability partner.
  • Engage with other people's content and share your input.

Show up everyday and cut through the unnecessary noise.

#4 Idea Generation

Are you struggling with figuring out what to write about?

Some of the best ideas come to you when you are taking a shower, walking, or driving.

  • Use your voice memo app to catch those ideas.
  • If you are walking, use your notes app to write a quick bullet point list.
  • Please don't rely on remembering your ideas; you need to get them out of your brain.

Remember: once the idea is gone, it's hard to get it back.

These 4 frameworks completely changed how I thought about writing and generating ideas for my content.

I wish I had known this 10 years ago when I started my entrepreneurial journey.
